Answer expected, Roma look to win the race with a three-year deal to Paulo Dybala

According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, there were talks between Roma GM Tiago Pinto and Paulo Dybala‘s agents, during which the two sides were expected to trade salary figures for the 28-year-old free agent. It was said that Roma offered a €4.5 million base salary with an additional €1.5 million in performance-related bonuses, while Dybala’s camp remained firm in their demand for a €6 million base salary. It wasn’t necessarily an impasse but certainly enough to threaten a deal that felt close to completion.

Roma has scaled back the length of their offer from four years to three years, while presumably including easy-to-achieve bonuses that would bring the total salary to Dybala’s preferred six million figure.

Reports in Italy say that Roma are expecting a positive response on the player’s part. There is growing optimism and a decision will be made in the coming hours.

Last week it was reported it will take an offer of £100,000 per week to convince Paulo Dybala to join a club. But Dybala wants to play in the Champions League, and is still waiting to hear from Napoli and Inter Milan‘s proposals.

Although, the latter bringing Romelu Lukaku back to the club on loan may have scuppered any hope of a deal taking place, with the squad now overcrowded unless they can offload the likes of Alexis Sanchez.
