Paulo Dybala has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for most shirts sold in Italy in one day following his free transfer to AS Roma.
Jose Mourinho managed to pull off the stunning coup and get the in-demand striker to Rome after his contract ran out at Juventus.
Dybala will wear the number 21 shirt after fellow summer signing Nemanja Matic vacated the number as a courtesy.
The former Manchester United midfielder will now wear the number eight.
Becoming the club’s biggest signing in recent years, Dybala was welcomed by Giallorossi fans by ordering plenty of his jerseys. That generated a whole lot of sales and made headlines in Italy.
Dybala has reportedly managed to surpass the number of shirts that Juventus sold after Ronaldo’s signing in 2018. Ronaldo’s record jersey sales in one day stood at 520,000 shirts following the Portuguese superstar’s sensational move from Real Madrid to Juventus four years ago, setting the record of the most sold shirts by the club.
But per the Italian tabloid, which did not include Dybala’s figures, states that the Argentine – who appeared on the wishlist of some top European clubs – has dethroned Ronaldo on his seat as the player with the most merchandise sold within 24 hours.
Dybala’s shirt reportedly costs fans between 110 and 130 euros each.
Dybala will wear shirt No. 21
At Roma, Dybala will be donning shirt number 21 after refusing to take Totti’s shirt No. 10.
“The director had suggested that I take 10, which is very important here for what Totti has done. That shirt must still be his. I thanked them because for such a shirt there must be respect and responsibility.
“Maybe one day I’ll wear it, but today I’m happy with 21. It’s a number I’m tied to and with which I started to win, said Dybala.
