Roma have officially signed the Dutch international Georgino Wijnaldum on loan with an option to buy from Paris St-Germain at the end of the season on Friday.

The 31-year-old’s arrival improves an already impressive window for Roma – who have signed Paulo Dybala, Nemanja Matic and Zeki Celik this summer.

Georgino Wijnaldum arrived in Italy earlier this week and received a very warm reception from Roma fans ahead of his move.

The Netherlands captain won the Ligue 1 title and made 37 appearances in all competitions after moving to PSG from Liverpool last summer.

How does Wijnaldum think about joining AS Roma?

“It’s a really good feeling to be a Roma player,” Wijnaldum, following Paulo Dybala’s signing, said in a statement. “Everyone I have spoken to has given me great feedback about the club and its fans.”

He continues, “The club made it clear just how much they wanted me in the efforts they made to complete the deal, which always gives a player a lot of confidence and belief. The reception from the supporters, on social media and elsewhere, has also been fantastic.”

“I promise to give 100% and help the team compete for all our targets this season.”

How do Roma speak upon Wijnaldum’s new arrival?

Roma General Manager Tiago Pinto was delighted at his arrival and believed his signing would help to improve the club’s reputation among the game’s best players:

“Georginio’s decision to come to Roma is yet another example of players of the highest level both in terms of their qualities on the pitch and off it.”

“It’s well believed that it’s in the club’s plans that they put all their energy into ensuring that negotiations reached a positive outcome.”

Gini brings qualities that will further enhance the competitiveness of our squad and natural leadership that has seen him become captain of one of the best national sides in the world.”

Which shirt number will Wijnaldum wear?

Wijnaldum has opted to wear the number 25 shirt this season for Roma.
